Help on Search in Reports
General Information
The following criteria control the search for reports:
- The title of the report ("Reports to be searched");
- The year when the report has been issued; and
- Text search.
The search criteria selected from these three areas are combined with a logical AND, i.e., only those reports will be selected which match all specified criteria (title, year and search text). We recommend therefore using only one of the three criteria for a search; possibly the title of the report or the year of issue may be used to restrict the search.
Text Search
You may search in the entire text of the reports, or only in the list of authors.
- The search is case-insensitive. The search text "electron" matches "electron", "Electron", "ELECTRON" and all other combinations of UPPER- and lowercase characters.
- The search text matches also parts of words. For example, the search text "electron" matches not only "electron", but also, e.g., "electronic" or "quantumelectronic". However, it does not match "electromagnetic".
- You may use "%" as a wildcard character. The character "%" matches an arbitrary number of characters (including zero). Therefore, the search text "electr%ic" matches "electric", "electronic", and "electromagnetic".
- You may search for "%" with the search string "\%" (Backslash!).
- You should place search strings that should be considered as one single entity within double quotes. With the search string ""hot electrons"" you will find only those entries that actually contain this phrase. Without the quotes around "hot electrons" you would find all entries that contain "hot" and "electrons" at any location and in any order. Both search items also might be interpreted as part of any other word, e.g., "hot" as part of "photoluminescence".
- Your search string may consist of several words. The search function first tries to find report contributions that contain all words of your search string according to the rules above. If this fails the search is repeated with an alternative algorithm that selects all records which hold at least one word of your search string. This alternative algorithm does not support the character "%" as a wildcard, though, and it also selects only entire words but not those which hold the search item as part of a word. The head of the list of matching entries indicates which of the two algorithms has been used.
- All entries matching the remaining search criteria will be displayed if you keep the field "Search for:" empty.
